Ringing in the New Year
12am: Watched the ball drop in Times Square.
12:30am: laid down to go to sleep
2:12am: phone rings; I send the call to voicemail.
2:13am: phone rings; I answer.
Apparently my 86 year old great-uncle and his 76 year old wife went to a NYE party. She had been drinking. She drove. She hit a car in a gas station. That car happened to be an unmarked RTA police car. The officer gets out of his vehicle and shots her tire out. She hits another car. The real police get flagged down. She is arrested.
I have to go pick up my uncle and bail her out of jail.
She's so drunk she was throwing up, refused to get finger printed, wouldn't take her mug shot, and was passed out by the time we got to the police station.
Keep in mind that I had picked up my brand new car the day before. I don't like her and I had decided that if she threw up in my whip, I was going to put her out on the side of the road.
Luckily she didn't. I got them home safely. She reimbursed me for the bail money. I got back to my hotel room around 5am.
So much for a peaceful, rested night.
Happy new year to me.

Random Rant
I'm generally a pretty accessible person. If you speak to me, I will speak back. I will hold a conversation with just about anyone on just about any topic. I'm starting to think that maybe this just isn't a good idea.... My overall experience is that most people suck. In addition to being boring, dull, and one-dimensional, they seem to be overwhelmingly dishonest and underhanded.
Maybe I'm just going through some things. Maybe this feeling will pass. We shall see.

How Random Is This???
The Back Story
Everyone knows that Chicago is my favorite city (and if you didn't know before now you do). Actually, the plan was the move there after graduation. So my senior year I interviewed with a couple of companies in Chicago. As part of the final round to these interviews, I had to fly out to Chicago and go through a battery of interviews at headquarters.
It's mid-October 2006. I'm just touched down at O'Hare. I'm at baggage claim trying to locate my bag and find my driver all at the same time. Out of nowhere, this man starts talking to me.... he's pretty friendly... asks me why I'm in town... tells me he works in hospitality and event planning... he's pretty well dressed... he gives me his business card and tells me to contact him. (If you're wondering why he wants me to contact him, your guess is as good as mine. But hey, it can't hurt right.)
So that night I get to my hotel and send him an email........ and never got a response.
Back to the Future
Ok back to me checking my email.... I have an email from the guy at the airport in Chicago. WHO REPLIES TO AN EMAIL 2 YEARS LATER???? Anyway.... he's hosting a holiday party next weekend... invited me to attend.... I'm seriously considering going. He seems like an interesting guy and I'm random like that.
Just thought I'd share that tidbit of morning random with the world.
