We Put On For Our City

Next Saturday I will be volunteering at the Back 2 School Drive in Akron, OH sponsored by Takeover Productions, Limited Brands, and Antonio Pittman of the St. Louis Rams. I had the pleasure of working the event last year and the turn out was great. This year is expected to be even bigger.

If you have or know a school-aged child in the Akron area, come on out.

Follow Us So You Can Follow Our Moves

I'm blessed to have an amazing network of young people in the Cleveland area that are about business and making things happen. I was originally going to do this as a "Follow" tweet but I wanted something with a little more staying power. I'm not even going to list the reasons WHY you should follow these people or the MOVES they've made recently. Just click that follow button and enjoy the ride.

L to tha E

The homie L.e (formerly of Fly.Union) has put together a nice project with NIKE called The Anti-Parachute theory. He sent me a couple of tracks (posted below) and they are n.i.c.e. Dude is crazy talented when it comes to rhyming and art. I actually have a sketch he did in my Think Tank. But I digress....take a listen and enjoy!

Chip tha Rip and Kiddo

Kid Cudi a.k.a. the Hometown Hero came thru the city of The Hangover Tour and SHUT SH!T DOWN!!! H.O.B. was sold out. The crowd was rocking. It was a f*cking good time. Even Mama Cudi was jamming to Make Her Say.

As always, I had to trusty dusty Flip Cam with me. Check out Cudi's encore with Chip the Ripper below.

*Special shouts out to the good people at Z107.9 for that box pass.*

The Roots @ H.O.B.

The Roots stopped through the city of Cleveland last month. The show was nice, as expected. The crowd was diverse, as expected. DJ Steph Floss opened and talked on the mic, as expected. The dopest part of the show was the percussion breakdown by the almighty Quest Love, as expected. (Little known fact: I was a percussionist for like 4 years

The Coventry Kids

Keeping in line with my posts about the good times on Coventry, I want to introduce some of the coolest MoFos on the block - The Coventry Kids.

I could go on and on about how much I love these guys and how awesome they are but I won't.

Just check out their site THECOVENTRYKIDS.COM and when you're in the area, drop by Heart & Sole and The Above Boutique and say hello. (While you're there, stop in Brigade and say hello to Dan The Man. Post coming soon....I can't give you all the good stuff at once.)

Next on Coventry

Coventry is by far one of my favorite spots in the city. Good food. Good shopping. Great people.

Over the holiday weekend, I did a LOT of macking and hanging with my friends on Coventry. Friday night, the citizens of the greater Cleveland area welcomed NeXt Boutique to the neighborhood. I must say that the decor of the store is very nice, much better than the other NeXt locations. The clothing selection is similar to the Beachwood location but that may change over the next few seasons.

Sidenote: Mick Boogie came through and spun for a few minutes. He played the sample from "Best I Ever Had" and blended it into the Drake track. I was in awe. Mick Boogie strikes again.

UrLife Blog

The homie T.Cherry started a site about a month or so ago called UrLife Blog. It consists of random rants and viewpoints from himself and a few guest bloggers.

I like it b/c there's no real format....it's just whatever comes to mind. Unstructured. Uncensored. Unfiltered. Thoughts.

Check it out and if you're interested in submitting, hit him up at urlifeblog@gmail.com.

Secrets to 6S

Kind of a corny title, I know but hey...it's the first thing that came to mind.

One thing I always talk about it the people that I surround myself with. Everyone provides a different perspective and adds value in their own way. One key thing I learned is IT IS BETTER TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WRONG THAN TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING RIGHT. For that reason, I keep very cynical people in my circle....quick to point out the wack, the lame, the corny, and the cliche'. In fact, one of my closest friends hates pretty much everything. When I go to bounce ideas off of these people, if they don't immediately tell me how bad it sucks, I know it must be a pretty decent idea.

Houstonfest

I took a little trip to Houston last month. I figured since I was in Atlanta, I'd shoot over to the H and check out the scenery (I totally forgot that Texas is fricking huge so the flight was still going to take like 2 hours...but that's neither here nor there).

While I was there I ate some good food, went on a couple of soft dates, did a little browsing. I also spent a few hours at 719 with the homie IB3 and gang. I forgot to sign the wall so I'll have to stop back thru the crib when I'm down there this fall.

Above the Houston skyline

One thing I learned is that people in Houston CANNOT DRIVE!!!! I almost got in like 6 accidents just on the way from the airport to my hotel. This guy just stone cold stopped in the middle on the highway for no reason at all. Call him and tell him he sucks.

I've wanted a rose gold bottom FOREVER! So I stopped by TV Johnny's at the Galleria and got one.

Houston was hot. Super hot. Especially when you go to check in your hotel and it's on fire. Luckily, they put the fire out and everything was okay.

Atlantapalooza - Stills

Flicks from ATL

I bought these flowers from a homeless man outside of Lava Lounge. I respected his hustle. He was just asking for a handout. He was selling a product and his presentation was on point (considering his lack of resources). He seems genuinely grateful.
Moncheecheroo getting her John Lennon on.

Dinner at Atlantic Station.

I've been on a quest for dope gloves ever since Solange came through Cleveland in these ILL Chanel joints back in February. I finally found some at Little Five Points.

Atlantapalooza

I spent April 28th - May 4th in Atlanta with my girl Cheech. We thrashed, we hung, we ate, we chilled, we shopped. A lot of randomly good times. Here are some of the moments:

Where is Petey Pablo?

Rants in the Car

Sunday Brunch

It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. I just got back from having brunch at The Chophouse with my homie DJ Steph Floss (I'm sure he's going to vlog about it).

Last time I was at The Chophouse for Sunday brunch, I had an encounter with rap legend, Yo Yo. I was eating with my girl Katie when Yo Yo walked in....it just so happened that Katie helped Yo Yo select an outfit they day before when they both happened to be shopping at Next Beachwood. So Yo Yo came over to our table to say hi and we took some pics. I was too geeked.

Funny Convos at Atlantapalooza

Me: I have to find Sheree.
Cheech: From Housewives of Atlanta?
Me: Yes.
Cheech: Come on man....She's probably in a studio apt smaller than yours back in Shaker. Man she's broke.
Me: What do you mean she's broke?
Cheech: Well maybe she's not broke. But she didn't get any money from that guy.
Me: She didn't get ANY money?
Cheech: Well like if me and you were to get married and divorced to each other right now....that's what she got.

LOVE This Kid

The homie Floyd from Cincinnati has got to be one of the coolest mofos I know in life. He does what he wants, how he wants, unapologetically. He's one of the Top 5 most random people I've ever met, but it all works out in the end.....He puts me in the mind of the Midwest version of Heron Preston. (Shouts out to all of the old people that use phrases like "puts me in the mind of")

Some cool sh!t Floyd has done:
*Appeared in Playboy Magazine (with clothes on, of course)
*Had a t-shirt line before having a t-shirt line was cool (Cope$etic brought us such classics as "We Know Your Bapes Are Fake, Sucka" and "It's Not Anorexia, It's The Drugs")
*Threw an 80's party (before EVERYONE brought the 80's back) sponsored by Vitamin Water (before VW went mainstream)
*Doesn't match....EVER!

Some of my fav Floyd flicks:

Solo Comes to Cleveland

Last night Solange performed at the House of Blues in Cleveland. It was a great show. Her band was great and cute (the bassist was giving me the eye). She rocked out. The crowd rocked out. My homie DJ Steph Floss opened for her.

I took some illegal footage which I will post once my computer situation is resolved (I have a clip of a very dope cover of Love Fool by the Caridgans).

For now, check out some of the pics courtesy of my trusty BB.

You can't really seem them in these pics but Solo had on the SICKEST gloves. I've been trying to find a pair like them all morning with no luck at all. :-(

Floss is back on his healthy food kick. So he brought rice cakes and grapes to "work".

The bassist gave me his set list. I told you he was give me the eye :-)

Confessions: Sneaker Edition

I love sneakers (check the title of this online journal). I always have. I always will.

I remember how excited I would get when the Eastbay came in the mail. I would spend hours going over all of the shoes that I wanted and ways to get my parents to buy them for me.

With that said, I have a confession to make...... I have owned some of the WORST sneakers of all time.
Take a look at some of the sneakers in my closet of shame...

Exhibit 1: Jordan 11 low in black and red

These weren't exactly my fault. I wanted the highs but they sold out before I could talk my dad into buying them for me. He got me the lows to make up for it......obviously he only made matters worse. I hated these shoes then and they make me cringe now.

Exhibit 2: The Kobe IIs aka the Moon Boot.

I fell victim to the hype with these. It was basketball season my junior year of high school and the boys team was getting them as one of their team shoes (our high school had an Adidas sponsorship). So when it came time for me to pick a shoe to hoop in, I picked the Kobe II. It was big. And bulky. And heavy. And stiff. Bad pick, Ainslee.

Exhibit 3: The (original) Master P

Arguably the worst shoe ever made. I don't know what I was thinking. I asked for them before I ever saw them and when they arrived......yeah. It was this freaky shoe-in-shoe combination...with the inner shoe being like a fitted water shoe/sock thing. Now I realize that it wasn't even realized by a legit shoe company....just "Master P" kinda like the "Shaqs" now. And to make matters worse, I had the blue and orange pair so mine were like 12 times uglier than the ones pictured here.

We've all had wack shoes in our closet. I'm just the first to admit it.

F*ck You & Your 25 Random Things....

I wasn't going to do one of these. It's been on ATL radio today. There's an article on TIME's website about these. It's out of control.....But the one posted by Nudy inspired me. So here you go...

1. I live 2 very separate lives. (No, I am not an assassin or a stripper in my spare time.) When those two worlds cross paths, I get a little nervous. It happens...and it's been happening more frequently lately but it still makes me very uneasy.

2. I move at a ridiculously fast pace through life. It's how I operate. It's how my mind works. I'm okay with that.

3. I have negative patience. In a perfect world, everything would happen seamlessly. (See #2). When there is lag time, I get very angry.

4. I have a horrible temper. I probably need anger management. I try really hard to control it but once something sets me off....it's over.

5. I retain information like a savant. Most people think I'm really smart...they're wrong. I just don't forget enough random facts.

6. I've been a lot of places and met a lot of people but I've only been star struck once. It was crazy. I couldn't talk. I didn't even really want to move. I couldn't believe that "they" were there...right in front of me...close enough to touch. (I don't get like that around them now.)

7. For some reason people live life vicariously though me. (I'm not a pretentious asshole....people have actually told me this.) I really don't think my life is all that out of the ordinary. Then again, it's the only life I've ever lived.

8. I am inspired by the people around me. I enjoy seeing my friends succeed more than I enjoy my own success.

9. I don't believe my own hype.

10. My text game is at all-star levels. I've had a full qwerty keyboard on my mobile device since I was 15 (what's up to all the kids that had 2way pagers in high school!)

11. I have self-diagnosed ADD. I need to be doing like 3 things at once to function properly.

12. I average at least 1 typo per text/BBM. (See#2) Eventually, you'll get used to it.

13. I don't necessarily think I'm a "trend-setter". Sometimes I just do what I feel. Sometimes I'm just really good at picking out the next hot thing and making people believe in it.

14. I think of a rap lyric that relates to pretty much everything. (See #5)

15. My best friend is a guy. We're pretty much the same person. We think the same things at the same times. His temper might be a little worse than mine.

16. I don't watch movies. It's not that I don't like them...I just don't watch them. All the movies you think are classic, I haven't seen. And if I have seen them, it's b/c #15 made me watch it.

17. I'm obsessed with C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine. #15's parents got me 52 tubes when I left Columbus...I've opened about 30 of them so far. They're everywhere. I always have one within arm's reach. If I can't find a tube immediately, I panick. *cue Napoleon Dynamite "My lips hurt real bad.**

18. I was really passive aggressive growing up.

19. I have a problem with authority. I always have. DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO! You can make a suggestion and then give me a logical explanation for that suggestion...but don't try to boss me around. (See #4.)

20. When I shop, I don't put together outfits. I just buy random things I like and try to figure out how to make them work later. Maybe that's why I never match (See #13.)

21. I hate to be wrong. It really really bothers me. (See #5)

22. I realized recently that I really enjoy arguing with people. If you argue properly, you're never wrong. (See #21 and #5).

23. Some of my best conversations have been with people under 7 and over 70. At that age, people are either too young or too old to care. It's some of the most pure conversation you can have.

24. I'm always down for an adventure. I hop on planes, buses (big shout out to the Megabus) and in cars headed to random places for no good reason at all. It's always a good time or a good story.

25. I have an extremely low pain tolerance. I have someone with me to hold my hand when I get tattoos.

26. I'm extremely tickle-ish. But don't tickle me. It pisses me off (See #4.) I almost broke up with someone for tickling me after I explicitly asked them not to.

Yes, I did 26 instead of 25. (See#19).

On Love

Am the only person that thinks love is the most ridiculous thing ever????

Like seriously....you get all worked up over some intangible "emotion"....start acting all irrational and doing things out of your normal character.

It's freaky. It's weird. It's creepy. And it sucks.

NO THANK YOU!

Thank God for "Weird" People

Sometimes I feel a little (read: a lot) out of place...Then I meet someone that is WAAAY more left field than I am. That makes me feel good. Like I'm "okay"....and I still have room to turn it up a notch.

Don't mind me...these are just my random thoughts........

Mmmmm beefy....

I stopped eating pork about 4 years ago. The toughest part was giving up bacon and Honeybaked Ham (during the holidays).

Turkey bacon was a reasonable substitute but recently I discovered beef bacon. This stuff is God sent!

Its great. Amazingly great.

If you live in Cleveland, you can get it at the Westside Market on W. 25th. I don't think I've seen it in any stores.... Either way, its worth the trip.

My Favorite Things - Bloc Party

Bloc Party is a London-based band that I discovered at Lolla this past summer. Over the months, they have grown to be one of my obsessions. I heart this band and their entire discography.

They will actually be in the U.S. on tour in March. I'm going to catch the show in Chicago on March 28th so if you'll be in the city you should definitely come. It's like a week after my birthday so it's automatically going to be a good time.

Oh yeah, I just discovered today that Bloc Party is on Twitter. Don't be afraid to be a follower.

Look At What I Found....

I was watching perhaps the worst documentary ever last night. It was about the mixtape industry and its rise. Some of the info was decent but it was poorly constructed overall.

But I digress. I'm watching, watching, watching and... *BOOM*

A very young, very New York SICKAMORE is on my laptop.

And who knew he was an artist???

Peep the still shots.

Just keep pouring salt...

There was a package waiting by my door when I got home from work today. I like mail. So, naturally, I was excited.

I opened the box to find my shipment of study guides for the CFA exam.

The suckage continues....

Being a Good Houseguest 101

Last Friday my homie DJ O Sharp crashed at my place the night after he dj'd the Biggie event at Touch Supper Club.

I was thoroughly impressed that he brought his slippers. Very posh.

O, you're welcome on my couch anytime!
